How to Get a QR Code (or Spotify Code) for Any Spotify Song
Want to share your favorite track, promote your band’s new release, or add a musical touch to a physical gift, wedding invite, or poster? Generating a scannable code for a Spotify song is quick, free, and surprisingly easy.
Depending on your goals, you have two primary options: Spotify Codes (Spotify’s native soundwave-style visual tag) or Standard QR Codes (which open via a phone’s regular camera).
Here is your complete, step-by-step guide to creating and using both.
Method 1: The Fast Way (Native Spotify Codes on Mobile)
If you just want a quick graphic to text to a friend or post on Instagram, Spotify has a built-in feature that generates a unique “soundwave” code for any track.
- Open Spotify: Launch the mobile app on your iOS or Android device.
- Find Your Song: Navigate to the specific song, album, or playlist you want to share.
- Open the Menu: Tap the three-dot icon (…) next to the song title.
- Show the Code: Near the bottom of the sharing options, tap Show Spotify Code. A card featuring the album art and a soundwave-like bar code will pop up.
- Save It: Tap Save to photos (or take a quick screenshot) to keep the image ready for sharing.
Note on Scanning: Native Spotify Codes require listeners to scan them using the in-app scanner inside Spotify (Tap Search $rightarrow$ tap the camera icon in the top right). They cannot be scanned by a standard smartphone camera app.
Method 2: The Print-Ready Way (Official Desktop Generator)
If you are designing custom merchandise, flyers, business cards, or posters, you will want a high-resolution, customizable file.
- Get the Spotify URI: Open the Spotify desktop app, locate your song, right-click it (or click the three dots), and hover over Share.
- Pro Tip: Hold down the Alt key (Windows) or Option key (Mac) while opening the share menu. The “Copy Link” option will magically change to Copy Spotify URI. Click it.
- Head to the Generator: Go to the official SpotifyCodes.com website.
- Paste and Customize: Paste your copied URI into the box and click Get Spotify Code. You can customize the background color, bar color, and file format (JPEG, PNG, or SVG) to match your design aesthetic.
- Download: Hit Download to grab your high-resolution file, and always run a quick scan test before sending things off to the printer.
Method 3: The Universal Way (Standard QR Codes)
If you want a traditional black-and-white (or customized) square QR code that anyone can scan instantly with a standard phone camera (without needing the Spotify app open first), use a third-party QR generator:
- Copy the Song Link: In Spotify, click Share $rightarrow$ Copy Link to grab the standard URL (
